Year 5

During RE lessons, we will learn through the following themes: Sacrifice, Memorial Sacrifice and Mission. We will also follow events related to the Liturgical year such as: Lent and Easter, St. David’s Day and the Presentation and Baptism of Our Lord.
In line with the Catholic Pupil Profile, we will be growing to be Curious & Active and Intentional & Prophetic.

This term, Year 5’s topic will be Potions. This project ultimately has a science focus and will teach us about the changing state of materials including solids, liquids and gases. We will learn about famous scientists and develop additional skills in recording investigations and fair tests using scientific formats and vocabulary. In this project we will learn about processes which change the state of a range of materials including freezing, melting, boiling, drying, dissolving and burning; how materials can be separated by filtering and sieving; how we use these processes in our everyday lives; how to carry out fair tests and investigations; and how to carry out tests and investigations safely and with attention.
In addition to this, we will look at medicines and how to be safe around them and innovations in medicine this century.
And in Expressive Arts we will focus on the Spanish artist Joan Miro and his style of painting, drawing and sculpture and how he was a leading figure in the Surrealist art period.
